Augustana's Fryxell Geology Museum

Dinosaurs to Diamonds and Fossils to Fluorescent Minerals": Come take a walk through Earth's history in one of the finest and largest collections of fossil, mineral and rock in the Midwest. FREE and open to the public! The museum, named after Dr. Fritiof Fryxell, has become one of the largest and finest collections of rocks, minerals and fossils in the Midwest. Begun in the late 1880s with a modest natural history collection, the museum now boasts over 1,500 rock, mineral, and fossil specimens. On display are a complete skeleton of a Tylosaurus "sea serpent", skulls of Parasaurolophus, Ankylosaurus, Apatosaurus, Allosaurus and Tyrannosaurus rex and a 2-billion-year-old fossil! Of particular interest is a state-of-the-art fluorescent mineral display and an exhibit of the complete 22-foot long skeleton of Cryolophosaurus, a large crested carnivorous dinosaur discovered in Antarctica in 1991 by Augustana paleontologist Dr. William Hammer.

Buffalo Bill Museum

The Buffalo Bill Museum honors the birthplace of Buffalo Bill Cody. Visit and enjoy a collection of Buffalo Bill and Mississippi River steamboat artifacts, and tour the Dry-docked Lone Star steam-driven towboat.

Regular admission is $7.00 Adults Seniors 65 and over $5.00 Youth 6 to 16 $2.00, children under 6 are free.

This home was a wedding present from Charles and Mary Deere to their daughter, Katherine, and her husband William Butterworth. Butterworth was the third CEO of Deere & Company (1907-1928). Built in 1892, the Butterworth’s named the home Hillcrest, tripling its size over time, including a library addition in 1917 that features an 18th century Italian ceiling painting. Today, the Butterworth Center & Deere-Wiman House are operated by the William Butterworth Foundation. They serve as year-round sites for quality educational and cultural events, meeting space for nonprofit organizations, and offer tours of local, national, and international visitors. Colonel Davenport Historical House
The Colonel Davenport House, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is a circa 1833 structure and was considered a mansion of its time. On your guided tour, see artifacts representative of the early to mid-1800s that reflect the lifestyle of the Davenport family, such as furniture, draperies, dishes, floor coverings, decorations, and ornamentations. The house is open for guided tours Friday and Saturday from 12-4 pm May to October. The all-volunteer, non-profit Colonel Davenport Historical Foundation staffed and maintained the house and grounds. Directions: Use Hillman Ave. from Rodman Ave. to get to the house on the Island's Northside. All visitors must use the Moline, Illinois gate to access Arsenal Island. A U.S. photo ID is needed for persons 16 years and older.

Dan Nagle Walnut Grove Pioneer Village

Walnut Grove was a Scott County cross-roads settlement and stage coach stop of the 1860s. The Village includes 22 historic buildings, some relocated from rural Scott County. Pioneer Village has accessible and modern restroom facilities. Great for school groups, weddings and family picnics.

The Butterworth Center and Deere-Wiman House are two majestic mansions built in the late 1800s by Charles Deere, son of John Deere. The homes are open for guided tours at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The tours begin at the Deere-Wiman House. The outstanding gardens are open for viewing any time during daylight hours. Donations appreciated. Check the website for additional summer and fall tour times. At the Butterworth Center, you will be amazed by the prized Venetian Art Ceiling - the 50-foot canvas ceiling painting was purchased by William and Katherine Butterworth, granddaughter of John Deere, from P.W. French and Company of New York in 1917. The art was never signed; it came from Hotel Danieli. New discoveries have revealed that the ceiling painting was completed in the 1710s or 1720s by Gaspar Diziani, a significant artist of the 18th century and was commissioned by the Bernando family. MUSEUM MONTH SPECIAL: Mention Quad Cities Museum Month in the Family Museum's store The Fox & Bee to get 10% off your purchase in October of 2024. Operate a crane, shop for groceries, sort mail, and climb into a treehouse at the fun-filled and interactive Family Museum. This hands-on museum located in Bettendorf, Iowa, is geared towards children 8 and younger and encourages families to play and learn together. In the farm exhibit, discover how food moves from the modern farm to the local store by caring for animals, driving a combine, and moving grain. Add obstacles or raise and lower water levels as you watch your boat make its journey down a 28-foot waterplay table resembling an actual stretch of the Mississippi River. Chat with your neighbor or wave to the mail carrier in the town square exhibit, which includes features of everyday life. Make alphabet soup, wash the laundry, and splash around in the virtual pond (without getting wet!) in PlayHouse. The two-story Luckey Climber, located in the Great Hall of the Family Museum, is made up of large climbing platforms surrounded by secure, vinyl-coated cable netting. This artistically stunning structure allows Family Museum guests to climb from the first floor to the second floor while observing photographs of clouds on the platforms on the climb up and aerial photographs on the way down. The climber is designed in such a way that there is no fall greater than 18 inches making it safe for the Museum’s young demographic. While intended for young children, all ages are welcome to climb! In addition to the hands-on exhibit area, the museum offers a private outdoor playground and waterplay area, a museum store, dance studios, an art and clay studio, and party rooms. John Deere Pavilion

The John Deere Pavilion is an attraction and museum located in Moline, Illinois. The Pavilion opened in 1997 as part of an urban renewal project on the site of the former John Deere Plow Works. Today the area includes Vibrant Arena at the Mark, a Wyndham Hotel, and several restaurants.

John Hauberg Indian Museum at Black Hawk State Historic Site

The Rock Island Arsenal Museum explores the history of Rock Island and the military history in the region from 1805 to the present day. The exhibits focus on the Arsenal’s role in supporting the nation’s military, its commands, and the larger Army Organic Industrial Base. Free admission. The Rock Island Arsenal Museum is open to the public, Tuesday - Saturday, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. The museum is closed on Sundays, Mondays, Federal Holidays, the Day after Thanksgiving, and Christmas Eve. Security and Access Requirements Rock Island Arsenal is an active military installation. All visitors must enter through the Moline Gate. Visitors who do not have an approved Department of Defense identification card and are 18 years old or older must obtain a visitor pass at the Moline Gate Visitor Control Center located at 23 Prospect Drive, Moline, IL. The Visitor Control Center is open every day from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm. All first-time visitors must present a valid state identification card, driver’s license, or valid U.S. Passport.
